A few of us remembered and took the time to enter the Nebraska State Fair homebrew contest. Yeah... I forgot! Anyway... Jeff Conrad and Tom Malowski both managed to take home a Best of Show award. Others in the club that placed are Bill Harvat, David Vandermeulen, Pat Greer, and Kyle Anderson. Congrats guys!!! See the full results here.
Congrats to Dusty for his third place finish with his Elderflower Saison! It is quite tasty! Also, congrats to Lee for being the very first female to make it into the Beer Quest finals! She and her co-brewer Terry finished 5th with their Elderflower Ale.
Unfortunately; I wasn't able to make the November competition. Hence the late post! I hear I missed out on a ton of fun as The Omaha Tap House was 100% packed with people drinking RRBC homebrew goodness! The Union Pacific Ties Social Club brought a ton of people, RRBC and friends brought a ton of beer, and an awesome time was had by all!
John came prepared and showed everyone how it's done by taking first and second in the Imperials style competition while Dustin came out on top of a couple of Terry's fantastic beers. . For winning first place; John took home $45 in gift
certificates from Cornhusker Beverage,
$25 of which was donated by them. Thanks again to The Omaha Tap House, the Union Pacific Ties Social Club, and Cornhusker Beverage
for a extremely successful event!

Now that Extreme Beerfest is over, be sure to let your liver rest up in time for our first club competition of 2014!! Once again, we will be at Blatt Beer & Table in conjunction with the Union Pacific Ties
social club. Our previous two events with them were extremely successful and we had an very high turnout from both our club as well as the UP Ties.
The styles for the RRBC members' style competition for this meeting are Scottish and Irish Ales.
There is also a Best Damn Beer (any style) competition that anyone and
everyone is welcome to enter. As usual, the members' style competition
awards prizes whereas the Best Damn Beer competition is merely for
bragging rights. As there will be MANY people at this event, please
bring at least a 64oz of each entry. There will be food, so be sure to
come hungry as well!
Note: If you plan to attend this event, please sign up here.
The UP Ties Social Group needs to have an idea of how much food they
need to order AND we need to adhere to NLCC rules and regulations by
having a guest list of people that will partake in our beer.
As usual, RRBC will have a large presence at Extreme Beerfest. Want to find out what beers we're bringing? Well, you're in luck. Jesse has created an extremely handy mobile website. Rather than tell you about it, I'll just ask you to check it out. www.rrbctaplist.com
This will be our first educational event so it's only fair that Brian, a founding member of the Railroaders Brew Club and owner of Moonstruck Meadery, host it! Brian and Tom will be teaching us the tricks of the trade on making mead. This event as well as all educational events are for members only. If you're not yet a member and would like to partake in our educational events as well as other club functions, please hit up Dustin to become a member. More information will be coming out about this event via email so stay tuned!
We will have a social hour from 6-7.
Infusion has also offered up tours for everyone at $5 per person
which includes two beers during the tour. The competitions will start at 7pm. Members can bring beers for the Strong Ale style competition. Both members and the public are welcome to bring beer for the "Best Damn Beer" competition which is for all styles.
7-9ish we will plan to have the club competition tasting, where members
can bring beer for the category comp, and everyone is welcome to bring
beer for the “Best Damn Beer”.
We tested out a new form for voting at our October competition which was designed to make casting your votes for your favorite beers much easier than our previous method. Several members provided feedback on the form and it has been redone again and should provide the best of both worlds between our old BJCP style judging and the simplified form. This meeting will be the first to utilize the new form.
On top of our official monthly meetings, we're now holding monthly social gatherings. Our November social event in Benson was very successful and lots of fun. If you didn't make it, you missed out! For December, we're meeting up at Brix (Village Point location) to check out the new Brix Beer Bar which has 20 taps. It's far from being the most taps in town, but it's impressive nonetheless when you consider they also have over 800 different beers in bottles to choose from! These social events are for members and the public alike so come on out, have some beers, and BS with fellow craft beer lovers!
