March 2009 Event: First Meeting

During the March meet, St. Patrick’s Day, we brewed an Irish Stout.  After christening our first meet with the sacred glass thermometer, we started to brewing.  The brew was extended out from 5 to 6 gallons, so we added 7 lbs. of Breiss Golden Light dry malt extract to wort.   Starting gravity was measured at 1.076, finishing at 1.011.  After clean up, we did a little sample of pure wort and it seems to be starting out with some good stout flavor.

Samples of a previous brew, German Ale (made by Brian Schlueter) and pizza was provided.

We discussed the next meeting, the 2 Saturday rule can vary to those that may have a fixed schedule, feedback was invited on this.  After the meeting, Bill Furnas, offered that we attend Beer Wars the movie sponsored by the Nebraska Brewing Company.
